Wine & Mountain 2026: A summer evening that lingers long in the memory
What happens when five Austrian winemakers, swing and blues, and the glowing Dachstein Glacier at 1,400 meters above sea level come together?
About 450 guests have known the answer since Saturday.
On August 8, 2026, under glorious weather, the “ Katrin ” was transformed into what is arguably Austria’s most beautiful wine lounge. Visitors took the red gondolas of the “ Katrin ”cable car up to Ischl’s local mountain, where, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., five Austrian winemakers presented their wines—high above the rooftops of the Salzkammergut.
Wine in a glass, music in the air
While visitors sampled wines from the participating wineries, the band “Chess in Blue” provided musical entertainment with a mix of swing, blues, and rock ’n’ roll.
Even aside from the wine, there was plenty of good food to enjoy: the “ Katrin ” mountain inn, the “ Katrin ” alpine hut, and “Chill am Berg” provided the evening’s culinary delights.
“Wine, music, and this panoramic view— Katrin has once again shown itself at its best. When the Dachstein Glacier glows in the evening light and you wind down the day with a glass of wine in hand, it’s an experience you won’t soon forget. My thanks go to the winemakers who made the long journey up to us on the mountain, our restaurant staff, and my entire team,” said Johannes Aldrian, managing director of Katrin cable car GmbH.
When even the trip home becomes an adventure
For many guests, the evening ended just as special as it had begun: with a gondola ride.
As we descended at sunset, the last rays of sunlight shone over the peaks of the Salzkammergut—a perfect ending to an evening of wine, music, and mountain views. 🚠
With “Wine & Mountains,” the “ Katrin ”cable car continues its series of special mountain experiences.
And August still has plenty in store: On August 13, “Yodeling on the Mountain” with Anita Biebl is on the schedule, along with the weekly free yoga session on the mountain and the sunrise hike on August 29.
